Using private planes for pets is not for billionaires or movie stars anymore. In Hong Kong, regular people are most likely to use this transportation for their pets.

Due to COVID policies in Hong Kong, almost all non-residents are barred from entering the city. The locals who leave and then come back must have up to three-week quarantines. Even if they test negative for the virus.

Top Stars Air, a Hong Kong-based private aviation company, has turned its plans attention from private flights for business executives toward group rentals for pet flights, CNN reported.

“People have to move one way, and they have to move the pets, Sometimes the fur parents have already relocated but the pets are still here.” Olga Radlynska, Top Stars Air founder said.

According to Radlynska, since the beginning of the pandemic, the company’s pet transport business has grown “700%”.

Why do people in Hong Kong use private planes for pets?

All kind of animals is welcome on board. In addition to dogs and cats, Top Stars has also transported hamsters, rabbits, birds, and even turtles

Because of some commercial airlines policies, imposed on traveling, larger animals are required to be put in kennels or in cargo. Some of them refuse to fly a snub-nosed dog breed like the French bulldogs fearing the risk of health issues in the sky.

Another Private aviation company, L’Voyage, communicates with pet owners.  They want to make sure that they microchipped their animals and gave them all the necessary vaccinations to fly.

“Pets are part of the family”. “A lot of people are waiting 12 months for a flight. From what I understand there are a few thousand animals (in Hong Kong) waiting to get on flights to their owners.” L’Voyage CEO said.
