Nearly every year since 2018, Musk has been predicting that Tesla will achieve the “full self-driving” soon. This year Tesla CEO said that he would be “shocked” if Tesla does not achieve “Full Self-Driving safer than human this year.”
The automaker earlier promised that it can deliver the technology through software updates to millions of vehicles.
According to Mr. Musk, full self-driving means that the vehicles would have the ability to drive by themselves on local roads and highways Under the supervision of the driver. To make it clear, the car can drive through intersections, but it still needs help from the driver, and with time it can get better and better.

In 2020, Tesla delivered that through its FSD Beta program. But people really got disappointed. It was so limited and not matched with Musk’s promise of Tesla to have a million “robotaxis” on the road.

Last week, during Tesla’s Q4 2021 earnings call, Elon Musk said, “I would be shocked if we do not achieve Full Self-Driving safer than human this year. I would be shocked.”
He didn’t mention how it could be “safer than human”, or it will really be away from the driver.
Tesla’s billionaire believes that other automakers companies are about five years behind Tesla in developing self-driving software. He even plans to license Tesla’s self-driving software to them.
