After receiving a request for help from the Ukrainian deputy prime minister, Elon Musk said that satellite-internet service Starlink “is now active” in Ukraine.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, tweeted addressing SpaceX founder. “Elon Musk, while you try to colonize Mars – Russia tries to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space – Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.”

Hours later, Mr. Musk replied that Starlink service was online in Ukraine before and more of its dishes are “en route”.

During Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the internet service in the country has been disrupted. In the early hours of Friday, the connection to Ukraine‘s main provider GigaTrans decreased to below 20 percent of normal levels.

Mr. Fedorov thanked Mr. Musk for his response.

SpaceX stands with ISS

On the other hand, SpaceX’s founder said that his aerospace company will rescue the International Space Station in case Russia tries to drop it from orbit.

Dimitry Rogozin, Vladimir Putin’s space chief, warned that Russian tech is needed to keep the ISS from crashing down over the US or Europe.

After U.S president Joe Biden’s announcement of sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rogozin tweeted “If you block co-operation with us, who will save the ISS from an uncontrolled deorbit and fall into the United States and Europe?”

Musk replied at Rogozin’s threat with the SpaceX logo. And when a user on Twitter asked him if this meant that SpaceX would keep the ISS from falling down, Musk replied: “Yes.”

Russia has been an essential part of the 15-nation partnership which kept the ISS orbiting Earth for 23 years. But due to Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine, the relations are at their worst.

However, NASA tried to ease tensions by saying that sanctions won’t affect ISS operations.

NASA has intentions to reduce sending its astronauts into space on Russian rockets and replace them with Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets.
